Afternoons of Solitude (2025)

The matador Andrés Roca Rey is considered a star among bullfighters. Accompanied by his toreros, the 28-year-old Peruvian travels from one Spanish arena to the next. But this bloody business requires the utmost concentration: from dressing in the hotel room to traditional movements in front of the aggravated animal, to the final death blow. Albert Serra documents the controversial spectacle with sober, penetrating images. Thus, the lonely hours of the matador and his dancing choreography in the embroidered costume seem as strange as the entire spectacle. And an eternity are the last seconds of the bull.
